Naturepark Weißbach

green alpine pastures, harsh rocks, wild water

The naturepark is known for the extensive alpine pasture with colourful meadows. Unique flowers and animals can be found - like the martagon lily or the mountain Apollo Butterfly. Weißbach is known for it's butterfly diversity. We aim to preserve the biodiversity of the region.

The Park is located in the communites of Weißbach and St. Martin bei Lofer. Together with the neighbouring Nationalpark Berchtesgaden (Bavaria, Germany) they build a special natural environment.

During summer those two protected areas are connected through the alp adventure bus.

Sustainabilty is the key

Naturpark is a term which is given to special and protected areas. In a naturepark the nature and environment is preserved through the sustainable agricultural and forestral use.

winter in the naturepark

silent time not quiet at all

Those who only think of skiing in winter will be proven wrong in the Weißbach Nature Park with its diverse offers in snowy nature.

Current guided snowshoe hikes and ski tours, as well as ice climbing and caving adventures can be found under events.

Even though the four ski areas Maria Alm, Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang, Waidringer Steinplatte and the ski area Loferer Alm, which can be reached directly by ski bus, are in the immediate vicinity and thus ensure pure skiing pleasure, there is still a lot to discover off the ski slopes!

The winter landscape invites you to take long walks and hikes, for example along the Hackerrunde along the Saalach or from Hintertal to Pürzlbach along a winterpath.

When the snow conditions are right, cross-country ski trails are groomed both in the centre of the village and in Hintertal, and there are also many opportunities to explore the winter landscape on snowshoes.

Of course, ski touring enthusiasts also get their money's worth in the extensive winter landscape. The sled run is illuminated in the evening, so nothing stands in the way of sledding fun. Those who prefer to put on their ice skates and take a few turns on the blades will find the right place in the naturepark Weißbach, as will guests who would like to learn about the art of curling or try it out for themselves.

Be respectful!

because you are not alone

The nature park is home to many animal & plant species. Even if you can't see the wildlife right now, you are in the middle of their living room!

In winter, wild animals are in energy-saving mode. When disturbed, it ends apruptly and excessive energy is consumed - this can end deadly for them!

Therefore, keep to a few points in mind when staying in the naturepark:

  • please stay on marked paths & routes
  • Leash your dog
  • Keep quiet & avoid unnecessary noise
  • Take your waste with you
  • Do not enter wildlife resting areas
